Chose and Motivate Your Team

Sometimes, we put so much time into the graphics, structure and event details that we forget about the human touch.  Don’t forget that the team you have at your event is your best representation.

A Team that is motivated, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about your brand will bring superior results.

Here are a few ideas on choosing the best team and motivating them to make a great first impression throughout your event.

Schedule a Few Experienced Key Employees Who Want to Attend

All of the excitement and enthusiasm, can’t replace knowledge and experience.  Make sure you have a team of individuals that includes employees that are knowledgeable on working events and experienced with your brand.  Some companies will often make the mistake of sending new employees so they can “learn”.  A trade show or event is not a training opportunity — it is your company’s opportunity to shine!

Communicate Goals

Whether in training meetings or in writing, make sure your team clearly understands why you are participating in this event, what your goals are, why these goals are important to the company and how they can help.  If they understand what you are expecting of them, they will know how to interact with your guests and they are more likely to help you achieve success.  Consider giving them individual goals as well.  For example, a certain number of one-on-one meetings or greet a certain number of guests.

Hire Brand Ambassadors to help create the “face of your company”

There is great value in hiring energetic Brand Ambassadors to greet attendees in a friendly manner as the “face of your company”.

By understanding your goals and knowing who your companies key contacts are, they will be able to direct attendees in the right direction, while handling the more routine but important roles for the event or tradeshow.  This frees your key employees to focus on using their company and brand knowledge where needed the most.

Provide Incentives

Offer some incentives to keep the team motivated and focused on your goals.  These incentives can include team contests, individual rewards or team rewards. They can range from gift cards, dinners, special events or special traveling perks (like hotel room upgrades). Remember to link any incentives to your program goals.

In the eyes of your customer, your team is your company. During a busy exhibit season, keeping them motivated may be a challenge. The steps you take will help you build a great show. Enthusiasm is contagious and the more motivated your team is the better salespeople they will be for your brand.
